Carol Gilmore

Carol Gilmore What MHS means to me:

Milton Hershey School provided me with an opportunity to break a cycle of poverty, under-education, isolation, and abuse in my family. MHS offered me a stable, secure, consistent environment in which to learn, and I actively embraced all it had to offer. In fact, my involvement in School publications was a precursor to my present career in publishing.

Helping Admissions:

I attend regional Opportunity Fairs hosted by Admissions Counselor Judy Smith and share my family's MHS experience with the public. When Judy was new to her position - and my region - I (along with other graduates) gave her information about contacts within the community.

Carol Gilmore, Class of 1982, helps families learn about Milton Hershey School by sharing her personal MHS experiences with the public.

Encouraging others:

There is something really satisfying about being able to reach out to the community and share the wonderful, life-changing miracle of Milton Hershey. Alumni who speak on behalf of the School are in their own way serving as living legacies of the good works of Milton and Catherine Hershey. Being involved with the Opportunity Fairs helps alumni stay up to date on changes and opportunities as well. I would strongly encourage younger alumni to get involved - children who come to the Opportunity Fairs really relate to our recent grads and trust their impressions about the School.

I think it is impossible for family members to leave an Opportunity Fair during which alumni have spoken without taking away a sense of the intense camaraderie that is shared among graduates - even those who span several generations, as the group I attend Opportunity Fairs with does.
